VisitFinland at the Travel Fair 2010
This year, I was attending the International Travel Fair 2010 at Helsinki, working for the Finnish Ministry of Employment and Economy, in the project VisitFinland. VisitFinland is the brand-name for MEK (Matkailun edistämiskeskus), which is the public firm behind the Ministry. I was working on Thursday and Friday (January 21 and 22), offering technical support for those entrepreneurs who were willing to acquire the

The promotion logo for the campaign talks about being in Finland and all the "benefits" of spending a holiday in this country. I think the idea was way original, and we managed to receive very constructive critics from all the customers. Another thing that made me proud was that every single customer sitting in the workshop with me, decided to buy the system, and hence we got plenty of contracts in only a few hours.
This week is quite tedious now, since all these contracts that we received during the travel fair must be served and put into production before February. However, is nice to see that a project that didn't have many high expectations in the beginning is doing well and most companies in Finland are starting to rely on this service, for which I work.
Software Engineer
After two months of not posting anything to this blog (and even having removed the blog temporarily), I decided to go on with the blog and even leave the Photo Gallery. The latest news are just great: I am already a Software Engineer, and I obtained my diploma on December 18, 2009; from Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences.
The ceremony took place in Helsinki center, in a very old building that belongs to the university. The head of the IT department, my supervisor (Mr. Pitkänen) and CaZ were attending the event and keeping me company. Besides my official diploma, I got an award from the Teacher's Board, thanks to my average grade and my results in most of the courses during my studies at Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences.

Straight after the graduation, I ran to the post office to prepare the official envelope containing all the application papers, in order to apply for the Master's Degree at Chalmers University, the IT faculty of the University of Gothemburg. The application period in the whole Sweden is open from December 1 until January 15, 2010.
For now, I only know that the papers have already arrived to Sweden and that I am a Software Engineer. My title is actually Software Engineer, specialized in Real-Time and Embedded Systems, although I would put such a label on me with my current knowledge. Now it is time to wait for the reply from Chalmers University and try to save money for the future.
Bachelor's Thesis: this is it!
Finally, my Bachelor's Thesis is done. The second draft is ready and I have already delivered it to my supervisor. On Monday I will take it to the language department, so that they can check it, and, hopefully, in two weeks I will be bounding the hard covers to it.
Last Thursday I had the last meeting with my supervisor and he totally agreed on the contents. The experiments about randomization, move ordering, dynamic quanta and quiescence search seemed to be sufficient to him (and of course to me), and he only asked for a couple of corrections and some improvements to one graph.
I would make an effort to write about the results of the project here, but I am so fed up with the Bachelor's Thesis and Chess0, that I encourage you to read the PDF, since I can't take it anymore :P
The plan now is to take the Maturity Test on November 26, and then get the diploma on December 18. The application for the Master's Degree in Sweden starts on December 1, so I better prepare all the documents for then. To all my readers, thank you for following these posts and hopefully I am shutting down this topic. And now, since I finished, I say: YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE-LEEEEEEEEEEEEEE-LEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE-REEEEEEEEEEEEE
