Bachelor's Thesis: this is it!

Finally, my Bachelor's Thesis is done. The second draft is ready and I have already delivered it to my supervisor. On Monday I will take it to the language department, so that they can check it, and, hopefully, in two weeks I will be bounding the hard covers to it.

Last Thursday I had the last meeting with my supervisor and he totally agreed on the contents. The experiments about randomization, move ordering, dynamic quanta and quiescence search seemed to be sufficient to him (and of course to me), and he only asked for a couple of corrections and some improvements to one graph.

I would make an effort to write about the results of the project here, but I am so fed up with the Bachelor's Thesis and Chess0, that I encourage you to read the PDF, since I can't take it anymore :P

The plan now is to take the Maturity Test on November 26, and then get the diploma on December 18. The application for the Master's Degree in Sweden starts on December 1, so I better prepare all the documents for then. To all my readers, thank you for following these posts and hopefully I am shutting down this topic. And now, since I finished, I say: YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE-LEEEEEEEEEEEEEE-LEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE-REEEEEEEEEEEEE

Bachelor's Thesis, take 11

I hope this is one of the last posts about my Bachelor's Thesis. I just finished writing the initial draft, containing the updated abstract, and with some enhancements to the paragraphs to make them stay in the page they should. So the document is ready for delivery, and it was supposed to be delivered today, but my supervisor told me (late already) that he won't come to the school. Hence, I am looking forward to deliver this draft on Thursday, and then hopefully start the language revision next week.

I already enrolled for the graduation, which will happen on December 18. However, the maturity test is on November 26, and the final version of the thesis will have to be ready by that day. I think the language corrections take about two weeks, and then I am ready to take the maturity test.

Besides the Bachelor's Thesis, I have to give a presentation on my project to some students, and I will book the time for November. Once I have completed the maturity test, I have bounded the Bachelor's Thesis and I have given the presentation, I will finally be an engineer (what a pride ^_^).

By the way, if you want to check the printed version of the Bachelor's Thesis, you can download it from the link below:

Bachelor's Thesis, take 10 [updated]

Another week that passes in front of me and my Bachelor's Thesis keeps developing at a good pace. Right now, I have finished polishing chapter 4 and the only parts left are the experiments and their corresponding discussions.

UPDATE: Today, I was visiting the IT studies planner and the language adviser at Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences and I already have prepared all the selected dates for graduation. Since there is a bit of a hurry for preparing the maturity test, the new plan is shorter and tougher. Here is the plan for the next few weeks:

Week Deliverable Description Status
Week 42 Chapter 5 (experiments) Write 5.1 (randomization tests)
Write 5.2 (dynamic heuristics tests)
Write 5.3 (quiescence search tests)
In progress
Week 43 Chapter 6 and Conclusions Write 6.1 (Achievements)
Write 6.2 (Desired Functionality)
Write 6.3 (Background technology)
Write 6.4 (Application Fields), which is how to extend quiescent search and other new features in other AI fields or applications
Write Conclusions and present the first draft for corrections to the language department
Not started
Week 44 Revision Revision with the language adviser Not started
Week 45 Presentation Prepare a presentation for the Bachelor's Thesis Not started
Week 46 Break I will travel to St. Petesburg (Russia) to take a break
Week 47 Maturity Test Add corrections to the first draft
Present second draft and hope it is the final document
Enroll for the maturity test
Not started

After a second meeting with my supervisor last Tuesday, we agreed on the experiments that I should run next week, which will document the three most important improvements over the classic AI engine: randomization, dynamic heuristics and quiescence search. These experiments will be run in different ways and I will present some simple graphs, demonstrating the impact of using these adaptive techniques.

My plan is to perform the experiments and, at the same time, keep writing the referent documentation. Further discussion about the result of the experiments will not be handled in chapter 5, but rather in chapter 6, with the discussions.

So now I have to set up the experiments and prepare myself for next week, when the decisive part of the project begins. This speed up at the end of the project is due to the deadlines for meeting the maturity test at Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, which is compulsory for achieving the diploma, thus giving me extra points for the Master's application in Gothemburg. I will keep you informed about my progress!
